Destruction came pouring out of the east
The Red Chinese scoffed at our faith
And devoured a land that was not theirs
We peered through the air but couldn't see
For a pall of darkness had covered our land
No one heard our cries for help
They were sucked up in an evil wind
Oh, I wish I were a running stream
Free to flow in the natural world
In our homeland my brothers are clamped in a vise,
In the jailer's hand, the hangman's rack
Above the world the sun's bright rays
Shine on the nations and dissipate gloom
But a part of the earth receives no light
The rays don't peerce Tibet's dard pall
If the United Nations really exists
Let it look at the state of the Land of Snows
People will claim their human rights
Even those who renounce the violent path
The Maoists mock the rule of law
Mock the rights of other folk
This soil is ours, Tibetan soil
Seized by the ruthless Chinese hordes

This peaceful snow lion is an ornament of the world.
May this ornament gain victory over the world!
In the snowy land of Tibet there is an army,
An army that is found in no other region.
The saffron-clad monk-hood is the peaceful army.
Monastic robes are their peaceful ornament.
Scriptures in hand are their benevolent weapons of joy.
The religion of nonviolence is their military strategy.
This army of peace and joy is an ornament of the world.
May this ornament gain victory over the world!
