about
Kongshey Gangtoe Dang Thonpo,
The Heights of the Snow Mountain
This is a traditional dance song from Kongpo, Tibet. Traditionally youths in Kongpo dance all night and when dawn comes, they sing this song to return to their homes.
I dedicate this song to Pema Tashi, a friend and a lover of Tibetan music. He passed away a few months ago from a long illness. I came to know this only now.
I have known Pema since the nineties when I was running Chaksampa Tibetan Dance and Opera Company, in the Bay Area. He always enjoyed our performances and participated and supported our work. During the Year of Tibet, 1991, he was with us as a member and I even asked him to join our group. He is not an artist but a very kind and thoughtful person. He makes friends easily and especially with women. He was a great flirter. Pema was a special being. We will miss him dearly.
lyrics
Kongpo Song: The Heights of the Snow Mountain
The heights of the Snow Mountain - let the dawn of long life and joy appear clearly and the white snow lioness shall return to the heights of the snow mountain with tossing her beautiful turquoise mane.
The heights of the Rocky Mountain - let the dawn of long life and joy appear clearly and the white vulture shall return to the heights of the Rocky Mountain with display of its beautiful wing's skill.
The height of the meadow-let the dawn of long life and joy appear clearly and
the cute brown deer shall return to the height of the meadow showing off her antlers.
